Semester Requirements

  1. Number of Practices: There will be 11 practices during the semester. Practices falling on public holidays will be canceled (October 23, Wednesday and November 1, Friday).
  2. Equipment: Lab coat and blue pen (non-erasable) are mandatory.
  3. Preparation for Practice: Students must arrive prepared and on time for the practice. Please notify in advance if you expect to be regularly late.
  4. Entrance tests: Surprise quizzes can be given at the start of the practices to test preparation. A failed entrance test results in a failed practice, that must be made up on a later date.
  5. Data Recording: Data measured during the practice must be recorded with a blue pen, which the instructor may sign at the end of the practice.

Lab Report Format

  1. Format: Lab reports should be prepared on paper. You can use either plain A4 paper or graph paper.
  2. Red Pen: The use of a red pen for preparing the lab report is prohibited.
  3. Required Information: The first page must include the following: name, date, practice name, group name.
  4. Theory Section: A one-page theory section is mandatory and must be brought to the practice. Failure to provide it may result in the student being sent away.
  5. Practice Description: A one-page description of the practice is also required. Failure to provide it may result in the student being sent away.
  6. Measured Data: Attach the paper with the data recorded during the practice to the lab report.
  7. Evaluation: If possible, submit diagrams printed or upload them to a Drive document and share them with your instructor.
  8. Lab Report Submission: The lab report must be submitted during the practice in the following week.
  9. Lab Report Return: Corrected lab reports will be returned at the earliest in the week following submission.
  10. Make-up Sessions: Due to absence or illness, one practice can be made up in the last week of the semester. One justified absence is allowed without the need for a make-up.
  11. Grades: To receive a grade, at least 10 practices must be completed. Lab reports will be graded from 1 to 5, and the average of these grades will determine the final semester grade.

Midterm Exam

  1. Midterm: One midterm exam will be written during the semester, suggested date: October 28-31, 2024.
  2. Midterm Return: Corrected midterm exams will be returned during the week of November 18.
  3. Declaration: By November 25, you must declare whether you wish to retake or make up the exam on December 2, or both.

Final Grade

The final grade will be the average of the midterm exam grade and the average of the lab report grades.

Practices to be done during the course:

1 Temperature dependent decomposition of acetylsalicylic acid
2 Determination of the dissociation constant of a weak acid by conductometry
3 Quantitative description of an adsorption process by the Langmuir isotherm
4 Partition equilibrium of I2 between two phases
5 Catalysis, inhibition and promoter effect in the decomposition reaction of hydrogen peroxide
6 Determination of the selectivity coefficient of an ion selective electrode
7 Determination of solubility product and enthalpy of solution by conductometry
8 Determination of acid dissociation constant of a weak acid by pH-potentiometry
9 Determination of the dissociation constant of a pH-indicator
10 Measuring the viscosity of solutions with Ostwald viscometer
11 Determination of the enthalpy of neutralization by calorimetry
12 Measuring the surface tension of liquids
