Physics BSc

Institute of Physics

Key information:

  • Duration of training: Full-time 3 years/6 semesters (180 Credits)
  • Deadline of application: 30/June
  • Starting date: 1/September (autumn intake only)
  • Tuition Fee: 5000Euro/academic year (consists of 2 semesters)
  • Non-refundable application fee: 140 Euro
  • Head of the program: Dr Gábor ALMÁSI associate professor
  • Academic Coordinator: Gyula POLÓNYI research fellow

Description of the program:

The Physics BSc line offers a full 3-year education in physics. The study program for the full-time training offers a complete education in physics, with special directions, particularly in IT in physics and Applied physics (with a strong emphasis on laser physics). The curriculum is organized into modules covering the Introductory courses in natural sciences (24 credits) and Common courses (52 credits) for all physics students (basic courses in mathematics, physics, and informatics). The courses related to the specializations in Applied physics cover the advanced topics in experimental and theoretical physics, the necessary courses in mathematics and informatics. The focus of the specialization in Informatics in physics is data acquisition, signal processing in LabView, database management, and programming in C# language. The students will familiarize themselves with the most modern instrumentation.

Admission requirement:

  • Obtained High School leaving certificate
  • Good grades in School leaving examination/A-levels, especially in Physics and Mathematics
  • Demonstrated evidence of an adequate level of English proficiency
  • Medical certificate, vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B, C) and HIV test, and results of Chest X-Ray
  • Europass CV in English
  • Motivation letter (introduction plus field of interest, etc.) in 3000 to 3500 characters
  • Copy of valid passport or national ID
  • The applicant must turn 18 years old or should be older by the day of enrolment in the current BSc study program
  • Applicant must have knowledge about the following topics: Basics of Mechanics (simple types of motions, force, momentum, work), Thermodynamics (temperature vs. heat, gas laws), Electric and magnetic fields (current, voltage, electromagnetic induction), and Elementary Mathematics

Selection:

After you have submitted/uploaded all the required documents, an academic colleague member from the Institute of Physics - usually a student-friendly and erudite professor - will make a contact you to make an appointment and set a date with you for a Skype interview.

Example questions that can come up during the interviews:

  • How do you calculate the kinetic energy?
  • What is the difference between heat and temperature?
  • Describe an example of electromagnetic induction!
